The skiing industry's growth was reduced to a crawl in 2011, Ibisworld reports. Regardless of whether the slump is due to the economic downturn or the withering winters, the snow industry is backed into a corner and it is safe to say they will be turning up the heat to melt the competition.
One way for those kinds of businesses to save money is to increase efficiency so boarders and skiers can make their purchases and hit the slopes with little delay – and barcodes could be a key player in this effort.
If someone has a multi-day or seasonal pass, they could gain access to the lift by simply scanning their pass without the aid of a mountain employee. The ideal scanner for this would be the Metrologic ORBIT MS 7120 Scanner. It can be used as a handheld device or it can be perched atop a stationary object. The large sweet-spot will make it easy for skiers to validate their passes so they waste no time getting on the trails.
Ibisworld also states that part of the skiing industry's sales are derived from merchandise. Barcodes could play a factor in assisting with transactions of goggles, mittens and other slope accessories.
