World of warehouses – Barcode Articles

Posted April 20, 2012

Warehouses are America's closets – we pack all of our excess goods in them until we decide to retrieve something. Warehouses are also big business, and it can take numerous employees just to operate one and keep it in order. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, warehouses employed a total of 648,000 employees, as of March 2012.

In order for a warehouse to operate quickly and efficiently it needs an accurate and systematic cataloging system, and barcodes would be helpful in this effort for organization. This could be done by giving each item a label every time you add it to a shelf, and then scanning its barcode to enter it into a database.

Inventory is also important because it lets a company know how much of a certain item they have in stock. Barcodes could also assist with this. Every time someone retrieves a certain item they could scan the barcode and then input how much they took out – this would then be subtracted from the overall total.

The Motorola MT2090 Wireless would be a great fit for a warehouse. It is wireless, so it can go anywhere, including from the ground floor to the tops of towering shelves.
