Finding an effective inventory management system can be difficult for hospital employees, but one facility has received a sizable investment to offer ID bracelets to patients.

Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, a health care facility in Massachusetts, will use stimulus funds from the federal government to provide the bracelets to visitors, according to The Enterprise. The technology could help doctors and other medical professionals monitor patients' medications with a handheld barcode scanner.

"There's just so much knowledge out there that you can't really catch everything," hospital assistant chief information officer Christian Renaux told the news source. "The computer allows those checks to happen."

In addition, hospital officials could use the barcode systems to stay updated on a patient's condition. Staff members can quickly review notes created by primary care doctors to ensure patients' receive top-notch assistance.

A reliable barcode reader such as the Honeywell Xenon 1900 Scanner could make a substantial difference in hospitals. The device's use of Adaptus Imaging Technology/5.5 and Omniplanar's SwiftDecoder ensures medical professionals can scan patients' ID cards to accurately monitor their health and safety.
